Thanks for stopping by, Scott. That is one of my wonders. I send most of my ‘graduates’ off to high schools that ask them to conform, compete and collect points in year 8. What happens when that grind starts in kindergarten?

The first video was eye-opening. Gave me better understanding of where people are coming from when they leave comments like:

“Only 16 and 17-year-olds are capable of making informed decisions about their learning.”

“Teachers are the experts, they need to make the decisions about teaching and learning.”

“They don’t know what they don’t know.”

Anyone who works in an environment where teaching and learning revolves around effective control and teacher-centred instruction, is unlikely to entertain the notion that children can learn to control their time, space and learning. I think schools should be diverse and teachers should be free to use their authentic pedagogy, but I wonder about the long term harm done by this approach. It’s a bridge too far for me.
